Painting tour of Dubrovnik & Mostar Led By Muriel Owen

Fast becoming one of the Mediterranean’s most popular destinations, the Balkans offer fantastic colours and light that is second only to that of Italy. Visit the medieval cities of Dubrovnik and Mostar in Bosnia where you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy your art. Venture out into the countryside amongst the dazzling scenery to explore its rustic charm and sample some of the local wine!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Monday 14 Junecrotia1

Morning departure from London Gatwick on British Airways flight to Dubrovnik.

Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel Argosy***, Hotel Tirena *** or Valamar Club*** for 6 nights stay (Hotel to be confirmed). Situated in the Babin Kuk penninsula, the hotel is surrounded by beautiful beaches and nature.

Day 2: Tuesday 15 June

After breakfast we will head to the city centre for sightseeing of Dubrovnik. This city of glorious past was the seat of a small but powerful state, the Dubrovnik Republic, which maintained its independence for 450 years. Discover its Old City, included on UNESCO`s World Heritage List, surrounded by mighty walls and fortresses, well preserved over the centuries. Our walking tour takes us to Stradun, an elegant main street with Onofrio`s Fountains, Franciscan Monastery with the ancient pharmacy, Orlando`s Column, Church of St Blaise-the city’s patron saint, Cathedral and other sights. Paint around the centre of the city.

Day 3: Wednesday 16 June

After breakfast depart for the picturesque Konavle countryside with thirty villages surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and numerous cypress trees. Stop to paint one of the beautiful villages. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Day 4 & 5: Thursday 17 June & Friday 18 June

Free days, guests can stroll around the peninsula or even walk or take a ride to the centre to paint and explore this beautiful city.

Day 6: Saturday 19 Junecrotia3

Excursion to Peljesac peninsula that boasts a long maritime tradition and winegrowing areas producing excellent red wines. The cultivation of vineyards dates back to 3rd century B.C. when the Greeks settled the island of Korcula. Discover the gentle landscapes of Pelješac and its steep southern coast, its villages with authentic rural architecture and hospitality of its people. Spend time painting here (approx 3 hours). Departure to Prizdrina for wine tasting and enjoy a typical light lunch at the one of the family houses.

Day 7: Sunday 20 June

After breakfast departure for Mostar. On the way we will stop in Medjugorje. Deep spiritual experience for those wishing to visit one of the most famous pilgrimage places of the Catholic world. Since 1981, in a small village of Medugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing to visionaries and passing through them messages of piece to the whole world. Share the faith with millions of pilgrims from all over the world that have visited Medugorje and left spiritually strengthened and renewed. Continue to Mostar, on arrival check-in at Hotel Bristol for 4 nights stay.

Day 8: Monday 21 June

After breakfast sightseeing of Mostar will follow of approx 1 ½ hours – panoramic sightseeing, stroll to the old core of the city and also the Old bridge (protected by UNESCO). Time to paint in the old city.

Day 9: Tuesday 22 Junecrotia2

After breakfast take an excursion to Blagaj and Pocitelj. 12 km from Mostar a city lies with strongest karst springs in Europe, under the big rock there is Derviska tekija, an attractive cultural monument. Pocitelj is interesting as it was a host city to painting colony with longest tradition in Southeastern Europe. The most interesting object is Sahat kula aging from 1664 a.d. Spend some time painting here.

Day 10: Wednesday 23 June

Free day in Mostar for painting.

Day 11: Thursday 24 June

After breakfast drive back to Dubrovnik airport for your afternoon flight to London with British Airways.
