ItineraryDay 01: Thursday 22nd April 2010 London to Damascus Fly from London Heathrow on a British Midland flight. Departing from London Heathrow: 1605 Arrive in Damascus: 2315 Meeting assistance on arrival and transfer by a chauffeur-driven air-conditioned car to your hotel. Check in at The Beit Zaman in Damascus for a 3-night stay Day 02: Friday 23rd April 2010 to Damascus After breakfast this morning you will be collected from the hotel and taken for a guided tour of city, which includes visits to the National Museum, the Ummayad Mosque and the Azem Palace. The afternoon is dedicated entirely to painting and a spot in the centre of the city will be selected close to the main sites where you can experience the full atmosphere of this compelling city. Day 03: Saturday 24th April 2010 to Damascus Today is dedicated entirely to painting. There will be a selection of sites available perhaps including mount Kassioun overlooking the city. Day 04: Sunday 25th April 2010 Damascus to Palmyra. Check out from the hotel early this morning and travel north to Ma’louola to visit the local monasteries. Continue on to Palmyra where you have a visit to the local museum and the citadel for sunset. You have a 2-night stay at the Dedeman hotel in Palmyra. Day 05: Monday 26th April 2010 to Palmyra You have a brief guided tour of Palmyra including the tower tombs and Temple of Bel on the main site. The rest of the day you will be left to paint on the site. Day 06: Tuesday 27th April 2010 Palmyra to Hama You have an early departure from the hotel for your transfer to the crusader castle of Krak Des Chevalier. You will have a brief guided tour of the castle followed by the rest of the day dedicated to painting. At the end of the day you have a short transfer to Hama for an overnight stay at the Oriental hotel. Day 07: Wednesday 28th April 2010 Hama to Aleppo via Apamea After an early check out from the hotel and a brief tour of the town you head through the Orontes valley to the Roman site of Apamea and Salah a Din Castle. You have the chance to paint at both destinations before heading to Aleppo for a 3-night stay at the Yasmin D’alp hotel. Day 08: Thursday 29th April 2010 to Aleppo Today you have a brief walking tour of the city that includes the main souks, the Citadel and the Museum. You the have the rest of the day to paint in the city at an attractive central location. Day 09: Friday 30th April 2010 to Aleppo Just north from the city are the Dead cities. These areas were populated the rich and influential Romans of there day and this is where they built there mansions and country estates. Towards the end of the Roman period threats of invasion from the steeps led to the area being abandoned. They stand as a testament to a time of Roman easy living. One particular feature is the Basilica of San Simeon that stands overlooking lush valleys. You have the day in this area and the opportunity to paint. Day 10: Saturday 1st May 2010 Aleppo to Damascus After check out from the hotel you have a transfer back to Damascus where you have an overnight stay at the Elba Cham Palace in Damascus. Day 11: Sunday 2nd May 2010 Damascus to London Fly from Damascus to London Heathrow on a British Midland flight. Departing from Damascus: 0925 Arrive in London Heathrow: 1300
