Day 1. To Bangkok Morning depart from London Heathrow on direct Thai Airways flight to Bangkok.
Day 2. Bangkok Met on arrival and transferred to the hotel. Evening relax with a 4 course set dinner at the Vertigo Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Bangkok. Two nights Mandarin Oriental.
Day 3. Bangkok – Palaces and Temples Tour After breakfast visit the Grand Palace, once the main Royal residence, and see the Emerald Buddha in the Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, Thailand’s holiest Temple.
Day 4. To Siem Reap – Afternoon Elephant ride to Angkor Thom/Bayon After breakfast transfer to the airport to board Bangkok Airlines flight to Siem Reap. Met on arrival then transferred to the hotel. Afternoon elephant ride from the South Gate of Angkor Thom to Bayon then continue to visit the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom – the last capital of the great Khmer Empire. Visit the sprawling Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the enchanting Bayon. Two nights at the Amansara.
Day 5. Full day guided tour of Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei and Ta Prohm – Helicopter flight Breakfast at Angkor Wat before touring the crown jewel of Khmer architecture, and now, the national symbol. Escorted by a personal guide explore the wonders of the World Heritage site, built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th C. Later visit Banteay Srei and Ta Prohm. Seemingly miniature in comparison to the other Angkor Temples, Banteay Srei is considered to be the jewel of classical Khmer art. The pink sandstone walls are covered with wonderfully preserved carvings of unusual delicacy. Ta Prohm, with its tree covered ruins is atmospheric and quite beautiful. Finally, helicopter flight over the amazing complex, to appreciate the sheer size and beauty of this archaeological wonder.
Day 6. To Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) – Evening Dinner Cruise Morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Evening dinner aboard a traditional Bonsai River Cruiser. Stay two nights at the Park Hyatt.
Day 7. Excursion to Cai Be floating market with lunch Early morning depart Saigon by road and journey into the Mekong Delta. Embark on a traditional wooden boat, stylishly fitted out with bamboo chairs and lounging cushions. Tour the colourful floating market of Cai Be, afterwards visit a historic Mandarin house dating from the 19th C. Continue the visit to an untouched area of the Mekong Delta, where life continues, largely undisturbed, as it has for generations.
Day 8. Ho Chi Minh City tour and Nha Trang Morning city tour through the heart of the city along Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), past the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh Square, Municipal Theatre and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Visit the Reunification Palace (formerly the Presidential Palace) and War Remnants Museum, before driving to Cholon, the Chinatown district of the city. Bargain in the vast Binh Tay wholesale market for souvenirs, before visiting the ornate Thien Hau Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea. Afternoon transfer to the airport to board Vietnam Airlines flight to Nha Trang. Met on arrival and transfer by road and boat to the Six Senses Hideaway, Ninh Van Bay for three nights.
Day 9 & 10. Nha Trang Two days at leisure, to simply relax and unwind: walking on the pristine white sands of the South China Sea, maybe indulging in some sybaritic therapy in the Spa or, if feeling energetic, learning how to windsurf.
Day 11. To Hoi An via Danang After breakfast transfer to the airport to board Vietnam Airlines flight to Danang. Met on arrival and transfer to Hoi An. Three nights at The Nam Hai Resort.
Day 12. Morning walking tour of Hoi An After breakfast take a walking tour of Hoi An visiting the Japanese covered bridge, Sa Huynh Museum with its unique insight into Hoi An’s history, the Tran Family Chapel and finally a lantern making workshop.
Day 13. Hoi An – at leisure Day at leisure, maybe playing a round of golf on the 18 hole Colin Montgomerie course, unwind in the spa or take a dip in the warm sea.
Day 14. To Hanoi Morning flight to Hanoi. Met on arrival and transferred to the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel for two nights.
Day 15. Hanoi - Guided city tour, water puppet display, Evening Dinner at Nineteen 11 After breakfast guided tour of Hanoi visiting the Ho Chi Minh Quarter, including the Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s house, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Continue to the Temple of Literature, and then the infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison. In the evening see a unique display of water puppetry. Evening dinner at the Nineteen 11 restaurant.
Day 16. To Halong Bay – Cruise An early start to Halong Bay. On arrival at Tuan Chau Island board the Paradise Cruise boat. Halong Bay achieved international fame as a key location in the French film ‘Indochine’ starring Catherine Deneuve. Considered Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder, Halong Bay boasts over 3,000 islands soaring out of the sea. The cruise is just perfect for exploring the myriad of caves, swimming in one of the many secluded bays or simply relaxing on deck watching the glorious seascape. Overnight on the Paradise Cruise boat.
Day 17. To Luang Prabang – Tai Chi class Before breakfast attend an (optional) early morning Tai Chi class on the sundeck. Disembark the cruise and return to Hanoi to board evening flight to Luang Prabang. Four nights at the La Residence Phu Vao.
Day 18. Luang Prabang – Afternoon sightseeing tour Morning at leisure. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Luang Prabang including the Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum and the Wat Xieng Thong Temple.
Day 19. Morning Alms giving, River cruise,Pak Ou caves At dawn witness the daily morning alms giving as hundreds of monks, of all ages, process silently by, receiving gifts of food from devotees. After breakfast, take a cruise down the jungle fringed river, visiting colourful local villages and the Pak Ou Caves filled with hundreds of Buddha statues.
Day 20. Shangri Lao Elephant Trek Follow in the footsteps of French explorer Dr. P. Neiss, who once surveyed the local tribes around Luang Prabang. This ‘safari’ starts at the Elephant village for an overview of the work going on – talk with the Vet and feed the elephants. Later, perched atop an elephant, take a slow journey to a delightful waterfall and eat a traditional Lao lunch. Walk 1.5km listening to the cacophony of sound from creatures great and small before boarding a ‘Rolls Royce’ bamboo raft, complete with cushions and mats, for the journey back to the landing jetty.
Day 21. To London via Bangkok Morning transfer to the airport to board Lao Airlines flight to Bangkok and connect onto Thai Airways flight back to London.
