Nepal
High
up in the Himalayas there lies a magical kingdom, home to Buddhism,
royal palaces and of course fabled mountain peaks. A visit to this
extraordinary country with its charming people will captivate you,
making you want to return again and again. Kathmandu, the vibrant
fascinating capital, is easily reached from India by a short flight
from Delhi or from Varanasi. There are also direct flights from Europe.
In the surrounding valley you can soak up Nepalese history and culture
by seeing the royal splendours of nearby Patan and Bhaktapur, the great
hemispherical stupas of Swayambhunath and Boudhnath, and, the plethora
of dazzling arts and crafts that the Nepalese people excel in.
Kathmandu itself, has no shortage of monuments, including the
magnificent carved wooden palaces and temples towering over Durbar
Square. Kathmandu may have undergone westernisation, but the
moment you head for the hills you enter a different dimension. One of
simple farmers, Buddhist priests and breathtaking landscapes. Pokhara
is Nepal's second most popular destination. From this lakeside town
there are numerous treks up into the Himalayas. To the north looms the
awesome Annapurna range where peaks reach 8000m in height. A Himalayan
trek is one of Nepal's greatest experiences but if you are not up to
scaling the heights, then head for the Royal Chitwan National Park in
the lowlands and take it relatively easy on an elephant safari,
shooting (with your camera!) for Tiger, Leopard and Rhino. If you
wish to extend your holiday, just let us know, and we can arrange it to
any destination of your choice. Perhaps a beach stay in Goa, a golfing
weekend in Sri Lanka or a cruise on the backwaters of Kerala. Essential
