Dal Lake - The most prominent natural feature of Kashmir is the Dal Lake.
Spread 6 kms long and 3 kms wide, the lake is divided into four parts by
causeways. The lakeside is lined with luxuriant chinars and poplars. The
waters of the Dal Lake are dotted with small willow covered islands that
give an ethereal ambience to the lake on misty mornings. A unique feature
of the lake is the Mihrbahri people, trading in flowers, fruits and vegetables
grown on floating gardens on these islands in the lake. The Mihrbahris sell
their wares from shikaras, the elongated gondolas that are popular with
tourists for touring the lake.
Nagin Lake - leading from the Dal Lake is the smaller Nagin Lake.
The Nagin Lake is located to the east of the city, at the foothill of the
mountain Zabarwan. The edges of Nagin Lake are also surrounded by willow
and poplar trees. The reflection of these trees in the water is striking.
Surrounded by Shankaracharya hill (Takht-e-Suleiman) on the south and Hari
Parbat on the west, the Nagin Lake sits in a charming picturesque location.
Afternoon, optional excursion to Shankaracharya Temple, which stands in a hill above Srinagar. The site dates back to 2500 BC.

Day 05
|
To Gulmarg
Half day excursion to Gulmarg.
(Gulmarg - 'The Meadow of flowers' is at a height of 2730m above sea level, the air there is clear and the views magnificent).
The journey to Gulmarg is half the enchantment of reaching there - roads bordered by
rigid avenues of poplar give over to flat expanses of rice fields interspersed with
picturesque villages. Depending on the season, nature's colours could be
the translucent green of spring, summer’s rich emerald, or autumn’s golden hues,
when scarlet chillies festoon windows of village homes. After Tangmarg, the climb
to Gulmarg begins through fir-covered hillsides. At one point, known simply as View Point,
travellers generally stop their vehicles for a few minutes and look out a spectacle
of snow-covered mountains, almost within touching distance.
Lunch at Hotel Highlands Park.
After lunch take a Gondola ride to the high slopes to enjoy the scenery of the valley of Gulmarg.
